Independent Photography Studio in Porto
Photography of real work, people and places.
PortoPhoto creates natural, considered photography for organisations, architecture, hospitality, industry, culture and professional events.
Each assignment is planned around the brief, produced with minimal disruption and delivered as a coherent body of images ready to work across websites, campaigns, press, publications and social media.
Selected work
Places, people and projects, photographed with a clear purpose.
A selection of photography across hospitality, architecture, workplaces, events and culture.
Every assignment begins with what needs to be shown, who needs to see it, and where the images will appear.
PortoPhoto works around real activity and real environments, using light direction when it improves the result and stepping back when it does not.
From architecture and hospitality to workplaces, cultural organisations and professional events, the aim is a clear and coherent body of images that feels credible to the people and place being photographed, while remaining adaptable across different formats.
PortoPhoto was founded and is managed by João Pedreda. Based in Porto, the studio works across Portugal and is available for international assignments.

Observational by default. Directed only when useful.
Observe first
Understand the space, activity, light and relationships before deciding where intervention will improve the result.
Direct lightly
Repeat a genuine action, adjust a position or create an environmental portrait when needed, without making the scene feel unnecessarily staged.
Deliver to the brief
Produce a coherent set of images covering the required people, places, moments and practical applications.
The Process
Clear steps from brief to delivery.
Every assignment is different, but the working process remains straightforward: understand what the photographs need to accomplish, prepare carefully, work efficiently on location and deliver a useful, coherent selection.
01Brief
The subject, audience, intended uses, priorities and required coverage are established before the assignment begins.
02Planning
Locations, timing, access, people, shot requirements, and practical constraints are organised around the brief.
03Photography
The assignment is photographed with a flexible, low-footprint approach. PortoPhoto observes first and directs only where it improves the result.
04Selection and delivery
The final photographs are edited as a coherent body of work and prepared in the formats required for their intended use.
People, process and place
Real activity is the subject.
PortoPhoto is especially interested in work that reveals how a place, process or organisation functions. This includes artists and makers, manufacturers, researchers, institutions, and public programmes.
